Depicting the horrors of the First World War is never easy, especially given how chaotic and bleak it was. Thankfully, BBC's Our World War does an excellent job highlighting the brutality of that conflict and showing the mindsets of the brave souls who fought in it. Airing in 2014 as a three-part miniseries, it follows different accounts of British soldiers through various points on the Eastern Front.
Anyone who is a war buff and especially a fan of Band of Brothers could find this miniseries fascinating, as it's a powerful story that combines gripping character drama with historical accuracy. There aren't many notable WWI shows out there, and this one is one of the stand-outs as it's quite engaging and powerfully told. The most significant episode of Band of Brothers is Chapter IX, "Why We Fight," a pivotal point in the show that sees the men of Easy Company come across an abandoned concentration camp during their trek through Germany. It's an intense and emotionally devastating episode, painting an unflinching depiction of the Holocaust and the horrors of war. It's a visceral war drama following through many perspectives and thoughts on this complex war. There's plenty of action, but a great deal of time is focused on the characters and their bonds with each other, much like Easy Company. The entire cast, including well-knowns like Alexander Skarsgård, James Ransone, Michael Kelly, and Robert John Burke, do impressive work flushing out and establishing their characters, making it easier for audiences to relate and follow them through their journey. It's an essential war series any Band of Brothers fan can get behind. Created by Robert Pirosh

Combat! is an American war drama series that aired on ABC from 1962 to 1967. Developed by Academy Award-winning screenwriter and WWII infantry veteran Robert Pirosh, the show paints a more realistic depiction of American soldiers during their grueling fight against Germany in France. It stars the late Vic Morrow and follows his character, Sgt. Saunders, as he leads his squad through several front-line engagements.
Striving for accuracy, Pirosh's series showed a more honest depiction of warfare and its toll on soldiers. The cast does short work, making the audience understand and sympathize with their characters, and there's a great deal of respect for history when they act like real soldiers. Combat! forever changed how war could be shown onscreen, portraying an unromanticized and bleak view of WWII and all its intensity.

2 'Generation War' (2013–2013)
Created by Benjamin Benedict, Nico Hofmann, and Jürgen Schuster
Generation War is a bold three-part miniseries showing Germany's side during WWII. A brutal and unflinching depiction of warfare that also doesn't shy away from the horrible outcomes of the conflict, this heartbreaking and intense series follows five 20-something friends as their lives are shaped and ruined in some form after Germany invades the Soviet Union.
Told through multiple perspectives, Generation War is about the dissolution of the war effort and how it affected both sides. There's no romanticizing here; it just shows WWII through the viewpoints of German soldiers and civilians who slowly wake up to its inevitable conclusion. Fas of Band of Brothers could find similarities to this show's serious approach to showing the harms of war and its impact. It's also very extreme, showing brutal violence and realistic battle sequences.

1 'The Pacific' (2010–2010)
Created by Bruce C. McKenna, Steven Spielberg, and Tom Hanks
The Pacific is undoubtedly the best sister series of Band of Brothers. It follows three different US soldiers: PFC Robert Leckie (James Badge Dale), Sgt. John Basilone (Jon Seda) and PFC Eugene Sledge (Joseph Mazzello), through several conflicts during the Allies' "Island Hopping" strategy of WWII, from the harsh jungles of Guadalcanal to the desperate fighting on Okinawa.
It's a gripping, intense, and action-packed miniseries that depicts the sheer brutality of conflict in the Pacific Theater. The Pacific is more brutal and bloody than its predecessor as it shows a completely different and more vicious side of the war, told by soldiers who faced up against the Japanese Empire. It doesn't skimp out on the violence nor paint combat as anything more than a desperate fight for survival. Anyone who's watched Band of Brothers needs to see this compelling series as it truly is a fascinating WWII that keeps viewers invested until the last scene.
